The basic difference between Cloud Hosting and Shared Hosting is the underlying technology that powers both products. With Cloud hosting, you get everything that Shared Hosting offers along with the ability to scale your CPU and RAM, and an extra boost for your website.

On a shared hosting server, you're renting space on a computer that's fully managed by the hosting company. Think of it as a fully furnished room in a motel. There's someone there to take care of the day-to-day things, change the bed, clean the bathroom, etc.

The benefits of the shared hosting environment is that there is very little that you need to do from a server management standpoint. The drawback is that a shared hosting environment can't handle as much traffic or activity, and if you're an advanced user, you may not be able to configure it exactly the way you like. As well, you're often sharing the resources with other people on the server - if someone else's site gets very busy, the server is paying attention to their site and not necessarily to yours.

On a VPS (like a Digital Ocean SSD) you're renting space on a computer that you're in charge of managing. Think of it as an apartment rental that you now have to decorate and furnish. You now have control of setting it up the way you want it - but there's a lot more maintenance and upkeep that you have to do yourself.

Cloud hosting is the procurement of computing resources from a cloud computing provider or facility to host data, services and/or solutions. Cloud hosting is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud delivery model that provides a suite of remote/virtual services.

A shared hosting plan hosts multiple accounts on a single dedicated IP address. They are usually used to save costs and space for hosting. Shared hosting is not very recommendable as they do not provide data security as the same space and IP address is shared between multiple clients.
