As a site visitor as well as a site owner, I am going to say that I really dislike popup ads. When I am visiting sites, popup ads scare me because everyone associates popups with adware, malware, viruses, etc. As a site owner, I would never use these ads because you really do not make much money off of them and you don't want to annoy your precious site visitors.

What are your thoughts about popup ads? I am wondering if anyone actually has good experiences with them.

Pop up ads are irritating and never have I experienced a good pop up ad. I remember when the internet was somewhat new in the office, a colleague with little knowledge was trying his hand. I was surprised when he summoned me for help. His computer was there, opening pop up adss after pop up ads... that were pornographic sites. Waheehee. You can imagine my reaction to that much more the contorted face of my colleague who was really embarrassed no end.

I hate them because it makes me feel harrased. You know what is more annoying than a pop up? A pop up that opens more pop up. I installed pop up blockers because I don't want to deal with them. On the other hand , this annoying system may be working for some people that's why they kept using it. Majority of people closes and skips pop ups but there are some people who are curious enough click them. That's why despite of the majority of people hates them, pop ups still exist because some people doesn't seemed to mind their existence and gave them a chance.

Got an otherwise good site I will tolerate a single pop-over subscription form, multiple pop-ups, any pop-unders or blocked backing up is a deal killer for me. I will leave that site and never return.

I stopped writing for Examiner.com after they went pop-up crazy. Which is a its as they are a content site Google accepts as a media news source so they have good "viral" potential.

I hate them and I think it's unfair for the visitors, who come and visit the site while suffering these commercials.
I think that people should press a commercial only if they want to, and the site owner has no right to decide.

I also don't like them. Most of the time like you I'm afraid that sometimes bad will happen and then I will get a virus. And that would be the last thing that I want. I mean I know that sometimes they can be good, but I've never run into one that was good. I have an ad blocker on my laptop, so that makes it as that I won't have to worry about them. If you're worrying about ads popping up all the time, then that would be something you can look into. It's an extension that you can get with Google Chrome.

Popup ads are the worst ads you can face in the internet. You can't freely click the site because no matter what you will activate a popup ad. I now a site where you can't click anything until you do 3 random click to activate a popup ad and then you can access the site.

I wouldn't mind to have my screen full of ads if I was able to click whatever I want and avoid the ads. But popup ads will open always unfortunately... :S and sometimes they have over 18 content and it's really bad if my parents are in the same room as I am... Anyone knows how to block them? :p

I despise popup ads - would never use them a site owner/admin, and I hate them as a user. If a site uses them, I leave, immediately. They're very irritating, honestly.

Pop-up ads are invasive. I particularly hate the ones that pop on on my cell phone and I can't close them in the cell phone browser!

I hate those popup ads. I have never liked them in the first place. It's like every time you visit a certain website, advertisements would keep appearing on the screen. They are pretty annoying and you don't know if it's a virus or not so it makes you feel a bit agitated.

I believe a simple logo is enough advertisement that people can find acceptable and respectable. It is indeed unfair for visitors. I also hate those pop ups that automatically installs a software we didn't wish to install. I encountered ads like that before and they were really rage inducing. There is something that is more annoying than a pop up. A redirect ad, you didn't click any logo and you will suddenly be redirected to another website. Ads like this makes me use ad blockers.

Don't like them what so ever! As soon as they popup I just want them to go away straight away and I'm sure everyone else is exactly the same. I use Firefox and have AdBlock Plus so luckily I don't see the majority of adverts but I do get the odd one popup every now and then which I hastily get rid of! If your thinking of using them as a advertising technique, I would very much avoid so as like I'm sure everyone would agree, their invasive and annoying!

That is the same way that I am. I hate seeing them because I just think that something bad will happen with my laptop. I may just be too cautious. I also have the AdBlocker, but sometimes the sites that I want to use ask me to take it off. I mean most of the time I do, but I always hate doing it. I also agree that it would be a bad idea to and use that to get more people to come to your site. Most people never click on them unless it's an accident.

Pop ups are now more dominant and prominent in mobile browsers. You can imagine how much they make me scream out of frustration because there is no working ad blockers for mobile devices. As much as I hate pop ups, I will rather encounter them over redirect links. I hate those ads that will redirect me to another website because the have this frame breaking feature that will force to to exit the website and transfer you to a website that you didn't ask for. I really hate them with a passion.

They're extremely annoying if they keep popping up, but some sites only have one Pop up ad and that is it. Overall, I really don't like pop up ads, but then again, I used to monetize my blog and I had ads popping up when people visited my site, so I should really tolerate them when I visit sites that have them
