Does anyone on here use Tumblr to get traffic on their blog? I have a personal blog so I use that to try and promote all the work that I do and also my blog. I think that it is able to help me get some traffic to my blog, but I'm not sure. I think it's a good site because you can use a lot of hashtags so that more people can see what I posted. So, do you guys use Tumblr to try and get traffic?

The main demographic of Tumblr are hipsters and teenage girls who loves to ship characters/celebrities through photo shops and fan fictions. I think you can use it for promotion sites but It is a smaller market compare to the Facebook and instagram crowd and its more limited as people can't comment this site. It has a potential but it is a smaller crowd but we can't underestimate small crowds because they were the ones who created cult favorites.

Yes, why not? Tumblr is a good platform for exhibiting your portfolios, works, websites, and blogs. I know a lot of people who are using Tumblr for business purposes as well so you should really try and utilize it. Anyway, it's all for free.

@dyanmarie25 well, there are some people who like to use it to drive traffic and some people who don't think it's always the best place to get traffic onto your site. I think that it's good because of all the hashtags that you use, but you have to have a site that will appeal to the people on it. Like @The_Arctic_Outcry said, most of the people on there are hipsters and teenage girls. So, you would want to have something that will appeal to them. If you have a business site, then I'm sure you won't be getting much traffic for your site there.

The best feature of tumblr is that it allows to place ads in your posts, so you can advertise your site, well yourself too or your products. But suggest do it once in two weeks at most (though this is my personal ; otherwise, you will irritate your followers really soon and that might backfire).

Tumblr doesn't have the huge number of users as of Facebook or twitter but if you have good things to post and persistent with your content, sooner or later you will get noticed. And who knows, even if Tumblr isn't the first choice for many other webmasters, it might turn out that for you personally it might work out like a charm. I used to post a lot there but now it's once in a while but I'm looking just for a presence there.

@Anuj Dhawan That is true, if you post too much then I'm sure that you might lose some followers from that. It would be a good place though if you have followers that wouldn't get annoying if you posted maybe 3 times a week. I'm sure that there aren't as much, but you can still have a big reach with Tumblr. I'm just not that into using Facebook because I don't have enough friends that would bring a lot of traffic. I have 600+ friends so I don't think that's enough.

I think instead of using your own account if you create a page there on FB, you'll be better off. The page should talk about your "professional" venture. Page followers might bring traffic. "Friends" don't bring traffic, they bring liveliness in life! :D

@Anuj Dhawan that is actually a good suggestion. I think that might have to be something that I'll try out. Right now I've just been trying to promote to sites because I didn't really want to make a Facebook page. I have heard people saying that it's a good way to get traffic to your page. Also, the Facebook groups are another good way. The only problem is finding those groups, because I would hate to be in a group and be in one where they didn't want you to promote your page and all that.

I created a blog specifically for my
Work from home business, but three days a later, it got deleted and when I asked them why, they said that I wasn't allowed to have a blog like that.... something like that. And that it violated their terms. I don't read terms, so i probably did violate it. I have used tumblr to make money online though. I have monetized my blog before, but I have never been able to get leads from tumblr

That is a smart thing to do. I'm not sure if my own personal page has been able to drive traffic to my blog, but I'm working on it. I'm sure that since I've used the hashtags on the site, that there have been some people who have come to my page. Wow, I didn't know that they were that strict about that. I mean that's not cool at all. I don't understand why you weren't able to have a blog like that when there are other people out there who post nude photos of other people. That just doesn't make any sense to me. I have tried to make money from mine because I have a lot of followers on there, but was never able to figure out how. I heard that you aren't allowed to use Google Ad Sense anymore.

Yeah they allow porn, but no promoting business opportunities...at least I wasn't able to. I don't know if other people do it. And no Google Adsense does not allow tumble blogs. If you're interested, I can tell you the website to use to monetize your tumblr blog. They are not strict at all. They allow tumblr blogs and they make it easy to monetize. They also approve you very easy and fast. If you have a lot of followers, you can make money, but I don't know how much exactly. You can either message me or....maybe I can send it on here, but I'm not sure if I can post links on here...

Yeah, that is just crazy because it would be such a good place to promote to. I mean I don't follow blogs like that, so I'm not even sure that they would let people that. I mean isn't social media supposed to let you do whateever you want? If you want to promote a link then you should be able to. I know that they don't let you message people links on there, I found that out and it sucks.

The people who can successfully promote at Tumblr are independent videogame developers. The video game Skull girls created a kickstarter so they will be able to create that videogame built up a fan base. They decided to create role play accounts for each character of the game. Each character have their "Ask Me" section and people were able to ask the characters some question and they will get an answer from the character. That makes the potential fans learn about the Lore of the game. Those Roleplay Tumblr accounts of the characters help to create buzz aand it makes people support the kick starter campaign of the game because of it.

Wow, that actually sounds like it would be a good way to get people to buy the game. I mean who wouldn't want to be able to do that. I wish that they would do that with more things. I'm sure that if more video games used that then they would see more peopel buying them. I mean sometimes it's hard to use Tumblr just because of the people who use it. You don't always come across people who may like what's on your page or blog.

Even if you are not a videogame creator, if we can analyze the marketing strategy of the creator of skull girls, Maybe we can follow their Tumblr success even if we have a different type of Businesses to promote. Tumblr also seemed to work for models, they use Tumblr to promote their Portfolio and get modelling gigs. I believed there is s formula in promoting in Tumblr and we just need To figure it out.

I don't understand how this would work for your blog, but I know that the best thing for marketing is exposure. Therefore, anyway you can get your sites seem is good, but it is best to get it seen by the people that it should reach. Work smarter, not harder.

Any form of advertising across any site you can make an account on will only be a good thing. While it's true that some sites might generate better results than others, I think it's important to try and advertise on as many sites as you can, because even if you get one or two hits from a site, it's one or two more than you would have got without joining

Yes, you can advertise anywhere, but you should really think about what is going to get you the most traffic and focus there. If you focus where the people in the genre are, then you are throwing your site in the wind, and hoping somebody is interested that's all I'm saying. You can spend so much time in one spot that you miss a better opportunity.

I agree that you should focus on the account you get the most traffic from, but at the same time it does no harm to try and cover all the bases.

Some sites and products might be more suited to users of certain accounts so even though it doesn't have the most traffic, it may still have the most traffic that suits you.
