Hi.. How good are the cloud disaster recovery solutions? Even though we store our data in cloud storages there are chances for cloud disaster. So I would like to know the operation of cloud disaster recovery solutions

One of the most significant advantages of cloud-based options over standard disaster recovery management is their cost-efficiency. Traditional backup involves setting up physical servers at a remote location, which can be costly. The cloud, on the other hand, enables you to outsource as many hardware and software resources as you need while paying only for what you use.

Another benefit of cloud-based technology is its reliability. Service providers have data banks to provide redundancy, which ensures maximum availability of your data. The workload migration and failover in cloud-based environments can take only several minutes.

Cloud backup services offer a high degree of scalability. Compared to physical systems, cloud backup is virtually endless.

Here are some of the pro`s and con`s of Cloud Disaster Recovery systems

Pros
  • No hotsite required (cloud provider becomes warm standby offsite)
  • CAPEX --> OPEX
  • Pay only for resources when they are in use
  • Automation for recovery steps
  • Better tracking for RTO/RPO

Cons
  • Your application needs to support the cloud
  • Only Windows and Linux servers are available
  • You still need to run DR tests
  • You need to ensure changes in your production deployment (configuration, data) are synchronized with your cloud versions.

I know its an old thread (3.5 years old!!) , but since this thread become active, let me give a technical reply here.

Since we cater mostly in AWS (AWS partner), my answer would be biased to AWS services/products/marketplace.

It is about architecture. When we host a file in an object storage. AWS offers 99.999999999 of availability which means that the file is duplicated at n number of locations.

We scale infinitely because of the architecture. You can host your website/app in any or multiple datacenter in one region. So even if one datacenter is down, you still get your data. Now what if the entire region is down ? Again you can have cross region replication which will be up, unless all the regions are down.

Again you can take snapshots as and when preferred as a backup option. All these solutions will depend on the RTO and RPO and the value/money you spent on those.

Cloud-based storage and recovery solutions enable you to backup and restore your business-critical files in case they are compromised.
Thanks to its high flexibility, the cloud technology enables efficient disaster recovery, regardless of the type or intensity of workloads. The data is stored in a secured cloud environment architected to provide high availability. The service is available on-demand, which enables organizations of different sizes to tailor DR solutions to their needs.
As opposed to traditional solutions, cloud-based disaster recovery is easy to set up and manage. Businesses no longer need to waste hours on transferring backup data from their in-house servers or tape drives to recover after a disaster. The cloud automates these processes, ensuring fast and error-free data recovery.
In other cases, the cloud recovery solutions back up the data at different cloud locations which ensures that you get your data even if one cloud location becomes a victim of a cloud disaster.
These are the multi-benefits of using Cloud recovery solutions.

Regards.

Cloud computing is the latest technological innovation enables servers to store data in the internet. For individual users and businesses, it allows them to access and use their files and applications without the need of specific software. This technology allows people to actually access and work on their files and applications using any computer. In the same way that emails can be accessed in any computer with connection, applications and files can also be accessed remotely. What is required only is any computer with internet connection.

Computing for recovery therefore is the right option for storing and backup of files for individuals but more so for businesses. Since disasters make businesses very vulnerable to loss of data and even to attacks, computers for disaster recovery offers the solution and protection to any business.

Cloud computing for disaster recovery is even safer and more secured since it is user driven. It minimizes the risk of data being copied, of the system being attacked thereby making recovery of data faster and easier.
